We want you to make the right decision about how to meet the cost of care for your pet. Since the cost of life-saving or life-extending care for your cat be very expensive we urge you to seriously evaluate how you would handle the costs of care should you encounter the need for catastrophic or major veterinary expenses. For those who believe they can handle routine care expenses but would not have the means to handle major veterinary expenses than a policy with a yearly deductable merits serious consideration. If you wish to budget wellness care expenses then a routine care plan should be evaluated.  In some plans both of these can be combined.

There is a difference between a wellness plan and major medical pet insurance. Some pet health care providers offer a wellness plan which is a preventative package of services offered at a set rate. This package of services can include vaccines, annual check-ups, and blood-work. Wellness plans vary by company, but usually cover preplanned events. Major medical pet insurance, however, is intended to cover unplanned major illnesses.

Each pet insurance company sets its own schedule of benefits or “reasonable costs.” Some companies reimburse pet owners based on their own schedule of benefits. Others compensate “reasonable costs,” which is an amount they are willing to reimburse a policyholder for a certain medical service or procedure. We recommend that you talk to the pet insurance company or prospective provider about their “reasonable costs” before you purchase.
